After the success of the Pinion Pallooza shirts, Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) asked me to design the official Homecoming shirt for their “Get Up, Stand Up” campaign. The theme spoke to empowerment and student involvement, so I leaned into imagery that evoked both movement and meaning—a silhouette inspired by Bob Marley with a raised fist, symbolizing courage, unity, and purpose.
The design radiates energy through its use of bold yellow on a black tee, echoing revolution-style posters while keeping it approachable for campus wear. Rays of light burst outward from the central figure, representing inspiration and the ripple effect of action. The slogan “Get Up, Stand Up” crowns the composition, while “Get Involved – RHA” grounds it, turning the shirt into both a call to action and a badge of belonging.
Reflection:
This project was a turning point in learning how design can motivate—not just inform. It’s still one of my favorite early pieces for how it captured both the message and the movement behind it.
