This was a design I created back in 2009 for Mesa State College’s Pinion Pallooza, before it became Colorado Mesa University. The theme that year was “Full Throttle,” so I wanted the design to feel loud, fast, and a little chaotic in the best way.
I built the layout around dirt bike stunt energy, with riders mid-trick, rough splatter textures, and a gritty type treatment. The splatters were meant to feel like mud, movement, and noise all at once. It was not supposed to be clean or polished. It needed to feel like an event that had energy behind it.
The hot pink on black was intentional too. It was bold, easy to spot, and gave the posters and shirts a lot more punch than a standard school color palette would have. For a campus event, I wanted something that would stand out and feel fun to wear.
